Ann Bunyenyezi Karasanyi

President (Founder)

When I retired in 2010, I remembered the words of President Kennedy: “Do not ask what the country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”.  Having worked for over 30 years with a Development Agency, I resolved to see how I could help my community in getting access to clean water. Namutamba is the only home I know away from home.  My parents, from Busanza, Kisoro District, in Uganda, were missionaries in Shyira, Rwanda, where I was born.  Due to economic challenges there, we returned to Uganda, to Namutamba at my tender age of 2 years.  We settled there and never looked back.

My permanent residence today is in Maryland, USA with my husband of 44 years, however, Namutamba is where I consider my roots to be.  I founded Kisaakye Community Empowerment Foundation with a main focus on access to clean water and empowering communities to solve social and economic challenges.

I want to see my hometown, rejuvenated like it was in the times of my childhood.  We had clean water from a source identified by the European settlers, who later left due to pressures of the then President of Uganda, Idi Amin.  The backbone of our local economy was the Tea Estate, where my father served as a Tea Taster, and later worked in the administration of the new owners, the Nagenda’s.  That Tea Estate is almost nonexistent now and the economy and development is facing many challenges but there is hope!

An Environmental Scientist with eleven years of project planning, management and implementation experience. Knowing Ann was my gateway to my passion for the community of Namutamba. When I saw the young women and men picking tea on a brutally hot sunny day in the vast tea estates and the little children trekking tedious miles just to get clean water, my heart melted, and I knew I had to get involved.

I long to see a community where people have access to clean water, better sanitation facilities and are well empowered to afford education and basic life necessities. With teamwork and your helpful donations, this will be achieved.
